Shirley Marie Bradby aka MiraBai Devi Dasi or simply MiraBai has been actively involved in the field of music since high school. After singing in various talent contests and winning she almost considered making a career of singing but preferred to go to college instead to study Economics and Political Science.

While attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota however she could not deny her passion for singing and was actively involved in the legendary Afro-American singing group “Sounds of Blackness” directed by Mr. Gary Hines who also accompanied her at the piano during the finals for the Miss Black Minnesota contest which she won…. again partly due to her singing talents. From that moment on her interests in music and singing have never waned.

Although she does not play an instrument she considers her voice to be an instrument and tries constantly to improve and expand what she considers to be a God-given talent. Over the years she has had contacts with various artists such Richie Havens, Amii Stewart, Joe Cocker, Fred Bongusto, Claudio Rocchi, Zucchero Fornacari and Paolo Tofani (Krsna Prema Dasa) from whom she has learned many things and admires as individuals and as artists.

MiraBai also feels that her musical quest can not and should not be divorced from her search for self-realization. MiraBai has traveled to India to see and experience first hand the spirituality for which India is famous. Her experiences with Indian culture and music impressed her so much that she decided to combine traditional Indian music with gospel, soul and blues; a combination which she has discovered helps her to express her most inner feelings and thoughts.

JALEBI is her first experience as a lead singer and as a songwriter and she feels that her collaboration with the other members of JALEBI is an opportunity to develop her talents and to share her love for music and different cultures with those who like to listen to great music!

Shirley Marie Bradby alias MiraBai Devi Dasi o semplicemente MiraBai è sempre stata attiva sulla scena musicale fin dai tempi della scuola superiore. Dopo aver vinto varie esibizioni di dilettanti aveva quasi deciso di tentare una carriera musicale, ma alla fine ha preferito andare all’università per studiare e per prendere una laurea in economia e commercio e scienze politiche.

Tuttavia mentre lei frequentava Macalester College a St. Paul, Minnesota non poteva reprimere la sua passione per il canto ed era molto attiva nel leggendario gruppo musicale afro-americano “Sounds of Blackness” diretto da Gary Hines. In questo stesso periodo lei ha partecipato e vinto il concorso di bellezza Miss Black Minnesota grazie anche alle sue doti musicali e al superbo accompagnamento al pianoforte di Gary Hines. Dal quel momento il suo interesse per la musica e il canto non è mai finito.

Anche se MiraBai non suona uno strumento musicale lei tratta la sua voce come tale e cerca costantemente di migliorare e di perfezionare un talento che lei considera un dono di Dio.

Durante gli anni lei ha avuto la fortuna di avere vari contatti con artisti come Richie Havens, Amii Stewart, Joe Cocker, Fred Buongusto, Claudio Rocchi, Zucchero Fornaciari e Paolo Tofani (Krsna Prema Dasa) che ammira come persone e artisti…… e dai quali ha imparato molte cose.

Per MiraBai la sua musicalità non può essere e non deve essere separata dalla sua ricerca spirituale. Per questo motivo lei ha viaggiato in India per vedere e sperimentare in prima persona la spiritualità per la quale l’India è famosa. Lei è rimasta così favorevolmente impressionata che ha voluto abbinare la musica tradizionale indiana con il gospel, soul e blues; scoprendo una combinazione che le aiuta ad esprimere i suoi sentimenti e pensieri più profondi.

Anche se i JALEBI sono la sua prima esperienza vera come cantante e cantautrice MiraBai sente che la sua collaborazione con gli altri membri dei JALEBI è un’opportunità per sviluppare il suo talento e per condividere il suo amore per la musica e per le diverse culture con tutti coloro che amano la bella musica!

Ramananda Roy das - Bass player and Sound Designer.......and the joyful heart of JALEBI !!

Ramananda Roy has always been interested in music even from a very early age. In fact he had his first musical experience when he was only twelve .... as a singer in a hardcore punk band!

The first instrument that he learned to play was the drums and then he decided to try the bass, which became his favorite instrument. When he was only fourteen years old he used his notable talent as a bass player to become a member of a group called the Whyxyd Band. He made his first record album with the Whyxyd Band which he still remembers with fondness.

Ramandana Roy was also a member of the RPCT; a band that played "free music" and that participated in various theater productions.

Due to his interests in various cultures and music Ramananda Roy has also learned to play the harmonium, the sarod, mrdanga, and the dhola. He is also expert in making handmade musical instruments.

His fascination with music and his attraction to different cultures has caused him to travel extensively. In fact Ramananda Roy has used his trips to India, Europe and North Africa to increase his knowledge of different musical cultures. He does admit, however, that India has always held a special fascination for him.

It is for this reason that Ramananda Roy travels to India at least once a year to update his musical skills and to see what is happening on the Indian musical scene.

Ramananda Roy ha sentito il fascino della musica fin dalla più tenera età. Infatti, la sua prima esperienza musicale era come cantante di una band di hardcore punk a solo dodici anni!

Il primo strumento che ha imparato a suonare è stata la batteria e in seguito ha deciso di provare a suonare il basso che è diventato il suo strumento preferito. A solo quattordici anni, con il gruppo Whyxyd Band, ha potuto dimostrare il suo notevole talento come bassita; il suo primo disco con i Whyxyd è stato un’esperienza che lui ricorda ancora con molto affetto.

Ramananda Roy è stato anche un membro della RPCT; una band che all’epoca suonava il “free music” e con il quale ha partecipato a varie produzioni teatrali.

In seguito, grazie al suo interesse per le varie culture, ha imparato a suonare l’armonium, il sarod, la mrdanga, e il dhol. Ramananda Roy è anche un esperto nel costruire artigianalmente strumenti musicali.

I suoi interressi lo hanno portato a viaggiare molto; è sempre stato attratto dalle diverse culture. Infatti, Ramananda Roy ha utilizzato i suoi viaggi in India, in Europa e in Africa settentrionale come un’opportunità per aumentare e approfondire la sua conoscenza di diverse culture musicali. Tuttavia ammette che l’India per lui ha sempre avuto uno fascino molto speciale.

E’ per questo motivo che almeno una volta l’anno Ramananda Roy va in India per accrescere la sua conoscenza e per aggiornarsi sulla scena musicale indiana.

Yasodanandana dasa - Guitar, synthesizer, composer.....and food expert!!!

Yasodanandana has always been interested in different kinds of music. His interests range from Worldbeat, Ethnic /Ethno Jazz to Techno Trance.

He has been involved in organizing various musical groups and projects. One of his more successful projects, with his band Govinda, has made several Cds with the EMI record company and a Govinda song was also included in Giorgio Armani’ famous Cd compliation for Sony.

Yasodanandana’s group Govinda has also been very successful in various countries such as the United States, Europe, and the Far East. Additionally, in Italy some of their songs have also been utilized in TV commercials.

Another one of Yasodanandana’s projects was the group called Kesava which at that time experimented with New Age music. They too had a discreet success. In fact in Hamburg, Germany they were included in a CD compilation produced by Innovative Communications .

Yasodananda, together with various bands including a recent project with Tatoo, is also active on the German live concert scene. He has also been involved with several projects with Italian artists such as the Mugnions (with Piero Pelù), Marco Masini , and Paolo Tofani (Area).

Yasodanandana plays various instruments but his favorite musical instrument is the guitar. His main aspiration is to perfect his research and experimentation with sound design using music from various cultures which he considers to be one of the most fascinating aspects of modern music and technology.

Yasodanandana è sempre stato interessato a tutti i tipi di musica. I suoi gusti vanno dal Worldbeat al Ethnic Jazz al Techno Trance.

Questo suo interesse nella musica ha portato Yasodanandana a partecipare all’organizzazione di diversi progetti e gruppi musicali. Uno dei suoi progetti musicali più riusciti è la creazione della sua band Govinda con la quale ha prodotto alcuni CD con la casa discografica EMI. Una delle canzoni dei Govinda è stata inclusa nella compilation voluta da Giorgio Armani e prodotto dalla Sony.

Inoltre, la sua band Govinda ha avuto un notevole successo in varie parti del mondo come negli Stati Uniti, nell’Europa e nell’Estremo Oriente.

Oltre a questi successi alcune delle canzoni dei Govinda sono state scelte per spot televisivi in Italia.

Un altro dei progetti di Yasodanandana è stato il gruppo musicale, i Kesava, con il quale ha sperimentato la musica New Age. Anche i Kesava hanno avuto un discreto successo; infatti ad Amburgo in Germania sono stati inclusi nella compilation di un CD prodotto dalla Innovative Communications.

Yasodanandana, insieme ai Tatto: uno dei suoi progetti più recenti è attivo sulla scena tedesca dei concerti live. Durante il suo percorso musicale Yasodanandana ha collaborato con vari artisti italiani del calibro dei Mugnions (con Piero Pelù), Marco Masini e Paolo Tofani (degli Area).

Yasodanandana suona vari strumenti musicali, ma il suo preferito è la chitarra. La sua aspirazione principale è di perfezionare la sua ricerca e sperimentazione con il sound design, utilizzando musica proveniente da varie culture; un’attività che per lui rappresenta l’aspetto più affascinante della musica e della tecnologia moderna.
